In China and the Philippines, chromium, manganese, nickel, and tungsten are mined for the making of high-quality steel. Tungsten is also used to make rockets and light bulbs. Sapphires and rubies are mined in Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Pearls are also harvested in Japan and the Philippines.
